AI connections
Let your AI assistant work in TaskPro — with your permissions.
TaskPro includes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Any MCP-compatible AI assistant, such as Claude, can connect to it to find, create and update projects and tasks. The assistant acts as the person who connected it, so it can never see or change more than they can.
The standard
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI assistants call tools in other applications. TaskPro publishes its capabilities as MCP tools, and the assistant decides when to call them while you chat.
What an assistant can do in TaskPro
Find and summarise work
Search tasks and projects, read a board, and summarise what is overdue or blocked.
Create and assign tasks
Turn a conversation or a meeting note into tasks with owners and due dates.
Update progress
Move tasks through their workflow, add comments, tick checklist items and log time.
Administer the workspace
For admins: configure task types, workflows, roles and integrations by asking.
How to connect an AI assistant
- 1
Add TaskPro to your assistant
In an assistant that supports remote MCP servers, add your workspace's MCP address. TaskPro supports OAuth sign-in, so you approve the connection in your browser.
- 2
Or issue a personal API token
For desktop clients and scripts, create an API token in TaskPro and give it to the MCP client. The token carries your permissions and can be revoked at any time.
- 3
Ask in plain language
Ask the assistant to list your overdue tasks, create a task for a teammate, or move work forward. It calls TaskPro's tools on your behalf.
Your permissions stay in control
- Every call runs through the same server-side permission checks as the web app.
- Write tools are only available where the workspace has enabled them.
- API tokens and OAuth connections can be listed and revoked by their owner.
- Changes made by an assistant appear in the activity log like any other change.
FAQ
AI connection questions
What is an MCP server for project management?
It is a connector that exposes a project management tool's actions — find tasks, create tasks, update status — to AI assistants through the open Model Context Protocol. TaskPro ships one built in.
Which AI assistants work with TaskPro?
Any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol, including Claude. Assistants with remote MCP support connect over OAuth; others use a personal API token.
Can an AI assistant see data I cannot?
No. The assistant acts as the person who connected it, and every request passes the same server-side permission checks as the web app.
Can I turn off write access for AI assistants?
Yes. A workspace can run its MCP server read-only, and any token or OAuth connection can be revoked at any time.
